Didier Ng and Arvin Tang
Eco-designer Didier Ng enjoys exploring new things, and creating art with otherwise unwanted items, upcycling and giving them a new twist, thus extending its shelf life. She has undertaken projects around the world (notably France & New Zealand), and most recently took part in Singapore’s Chingay 2015. Arvin Tang is the creative director at AKïN, a social-centric marketing agency. Arvin leads integrated marketing strategies for international clients and is passionate about education. In his free time, Arvin champions leadership workshops for youths as Quartz Initiative's Co-founder.
Raising The Bar is a mural that comes in the form of a loaded barbell with weight plates, a representation of the strength that every individual wields. The background is layered with happy faces of different races in the background, depicting unification and coming together of the diverse cultures both in Singapore and in the Southeast Asian region. The installation invites passersby to interact with it – by standing at a particular spot marked on the ground and raising their arms, it creates an illusion as though one is lifting the barbell. Other than being a fun photo opportunity, the action is also a visual representation of the person ‘raising the bar’, pushing forward and breaking one’s own limits and boundaries. This is also representative of how the 'bar' will be passed on from generations of Singaporeans to generations. By coming together as ONE, this mural hopes to inspire Singaporeans to be part of the SEA Games via our Community Art (ComArt) and in return inspire others.
